Storage of nuclear waste.
The current plan is a bad one.
Transporting high level nuclear waste across the entire District to store it temporarily, outdoors, uncovered, with little protection is a bad plan and it needs to go back to the drawing board.
While there may be some minor economic benefit to the citizens of Andrews, the risk to the rest of the District has not been adequately considered. Nor has serious consideration been given to how long is temporary and is there any national plan to ultimately solve this problem on a permanent basis. Yucca Mountain now seems to be off the table, especially during a presidential election year. Storing high level waste in our Distict needs to be put on and hold, and we need to develop a long term, national solution to this problem. This includes looking at repealing the laws that ban recycling of nuclear waste in the United States.
